Please reach Kate at katebrownmassagetherapy@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Once a massage appointment time has been agreed you will be sent a confirmation email.
The email will provide you with the address you need to come to for your massage. It will also remind you of the time, and how long your massage (and consultation) will take. Finally there will be a payment link managed by Stripe to pay securely online.
If you are a new client you will also receive a client details form, this is to provide some basic information about yourself and asks some medical questions. The purpose of this is to make sure that massage is going to be safe for you, and to make Kate aware of any conditions which might mean adapting your massage to best suit your needs. The form is a word document in the Microsoft Word format, please edit this copy and save a copy under your name and return it ahead of your massage. If you have not had chance to do this before your appointment time this is not a problem, the questions can be answered during your consultation. Failure to provide the details at any stage will result in massage not being provided. It is important that you disclose this information.
All you have to do next is eagerly wait for your massage!
When you arrive you should expect a warm welcome. You will be shown through the house, please be aware that Kate's massage space is up one flight of stairs, if you have mobility issues then please get in contact ahead of your treatment, it should be possible to treat you downstairs but notice is needed ahead to time to make sure this is set up before your arrival.
In the massage space you will be offered a seat to discuss your needs and goals and agree upon the plan for your massage. Kate may need to make some assessments of your posture or movement, she will talk you through anything on the day so there is no need to be nervous. Once agreed you will be asked to undress and position yourself on the couch. Whilst you do this Kate will leave the room to wash her hands. She will make sure that you are positioned comfortably and are warm enough before beginning the treatment.
For new clients: Before your first treatment can begin a full consultation will be required before a plan can be agreed with you. If you have not had chance to fill in the client details form, the questions from it will be covered at this point. Consultations usually last around 30 minutes.
In the consultation Kate will ask you a bit about your lifestyle and she may ask you to expand upon anything you have notified her about on the form you returned to her, as well as your reasons for coming for treatment. Kate does this to get a clear picture of you as a person and your needs so that she can give you the best treatment possible.
Kate will use a range of hands on techniques to locate areas of tension in your body and work to release them. This will involve using her hands and her forearms to to move across, and manipulate the muscles. Kate will listen to you to adapt the pressure she is using to give the best massage for your aims and comfort.
Areas where your muscles are very tight areas may feel a little tender when touched but massage should never be painful, Kate will check in with you at regular intervals to make sure that you are comfortable, and will adapt what she is doing if any sensation becomes too intense. Ultimately you are in a safe space and it is your massage so please speak up if something doesn't feel right.
Everything in the body is connected to each other through a network of fascia, a connective tissue, in the body. You may experience some sensations during the treatment such as tingling, pins and needles or areas becoming warm; these sensations may be in one place or travel to other parts of the body, you may even feel something in a completely different area of the body, this is completely normal and will be different for everyone. These sensations usually become less intense or stop as the body relaxes and releases the tension it is holding.
Kate will occasionally ask you questions to help guide her through the treatment, so if you are feeling something different then let her know. Knowing that something is not working for you, is just as important as knowing that something is having a positive effect as there are plenty of different techniques she can try to get you the best results. Please don not worry about your answers being right, there is no right or silly answer when it comes to your body and what you are feeling.
Please stay tuned.. a section about this is coming to the website soon.
For now there is some information in the treatments section of the website. You may also want to view content on my social media channels on Facebook and Instagram, or feel free to reach out and ask. Kate loves to discuss massage!
Kate is trying to minimise the spread of the COVID-19 and other airbourne and contact diseases for my business to keep everyone safe. If you test positive for COVID-19 or feel unwell then please let Kate know and do not attend your treatment, get in contact and she will organise another time for your appointment. In return, she promises to take all the precautions she can, and will contact you should she become unwell or contract the virus so that you can take the necessary steps.
The massage space is cleaned regularly between clients, with the couch, face cradle and seat disinfected. You will always be provided with clean towels and linens.
Before and after your massage Kate will wash her hands and forearms with hot water and soap.
Kate understands that not everyone feels comfortable or safe without a mask, so please feel free to wear one if that is best for you. Kate is also happy to wear a mask, so please just ask if that's what you'd prefer. Hand sanitizer will be available for your use.
Firstly, there is no need to be nervous, Kate believes everybody has a right to be massaged and will treat you with compassion and kindness. If you do find you are feeling a little anxious then just say and she will do all she can to keep the atmosphere calm and reassuring.
You don't need to wait until the day too, let her know when you book and she can chat with you to answer any further questions you might have.
Ultimately if something doesn't feel right or makes you uncomfortable in any way just say. You are free to stop the massage at any point.
Whatever you feel comfortable in!
In the massage itself you will be asked to undress to whatever level you are comfortable with. Ideally this will be to your underwear, you will be asked to remove you bra if your wear one and your massage involves the back or shoulders. You can always wait until you are on the couch to do this if that makes you feel more comfortable. Sports shorts are appropriate so long as the legs can easily be moved to allow access the top of your leg. If you choose to keep more of your clothes on please be aware that some techniques may not be able to be used, and this could potentially affect the overall outcome of your massage.
If your treatment does not include legs then it will be up to you whether to keep your bottom half on, Kate advises that it you do not have a soft or stretchy waist band then any belts should be removed and flies of trousers should be undone for comfort.
Similarly if you are having a leg massage only you can opt to keep your top on if you wish.
If you are having a full body hot stones massage or massage to your glutes (bum muscles) and hips you will have a conversation about whether you are comfortable removing your underwear or not - you will only ever be asked this if it is relevant to your treatment. The choice will be yours and if you choose this option you will be draped appropriately to ensure your privacy and to keep everyone safe guarded. There are options for massage of these areas to be done over the top of the towel, it is by no means mandatory. Your comfort and safety will always be put first.
Normally clients will come alone; however if you are anxious and having a familiar person with you would help you then this can be arranged. They will need to sit quietly during the treatment and allow Kate to treat you without interruption. Please advise Kate if you want to have someone in the room with you before coming for treatment.
You will be sent a payment link in your confirmation email where you can pay securely online, with payments managed through Stripe.
Alternatively you can choose to pay on the day via contactless payment. These payments are also managed through Stripe and are completely secure.
