WELCOME TO KBMT!

Hi I'm Kate and I'm an advanced clinical massage therapist.

It is my mission to...

  • Help you manage your pain
  • Improve your movement and...
  • Empower you through your journey with chronic pain, or recovery from injury

Because I believe that we should all be able to live our lives to the fullest.

Reduce pain - improve movement - feel empowered

Kate the Massage Therapist

I have been a massage therapist since 2021 and I specialise in the treatment of chronic pain. In my clinic, I work mostly with individuals suffering with a range of chronic pain conditions such as headaches, frozen shoulder, fibromyalgia, stress and anxiety, and old injuries. This involves me drawing on techniques from different types of massage and working with my clients to produce goal-based, measurable outcomes.

I have specialist skills in myofascial release (MFR), working with the jaw or temporomandibular joint (TMJ), hot stones and injury rehabilitation including strapping injuries and putting together progressive rehabilitation programmes.

I work holistically and consider you as a whole person, not just your physical symptoms. If you come to me, we will work together as a team to create a plan that fits your needs and works towards your goals together. Think of me as your biggest cheerleader!

My approach is completely bespoke to you!

Training and Qualifications

Kate originally trained for her level 3 diploma in Swedish Massage and Anatomy and Physiology with the School of Bodywork in Exeter in 2019/2020. Soon after she returned to her studies with School of Bodywork and in 2022 received her level 3 diploma in remedial massage.

In 2022/2023 Kate completed her joint qualification with Jing Advanced Massage Training in Brighton awarding her with a level 5 in Advanced Clinical Massage and level 4 in Sports Massage. She is committed to continuing her professional development and is currently in the final year of ther BTEC level 6 in Advanced Clinical and Sports Massage offered by Jing Advanced Massage Training. Through the BTEC she has gained skills in myofascial release (MFR), working with chronic pain, strapping with K-tape (for joint and muscle support and protection), orthopeadic assessment and special testing, and rehabilitation. She is therefore well equipped to help you by ensuring a comprehensive consultation and assessment, providing expert soft tissue work, and supporting you beyond your time on the massage table.

As part of the course work for the level 6 BTEC, Kate has been given an opportunity to design and carry out a study into the effects of a clinical massage wellness programme. She has chosen to evaluate the effectiveness of the Jing Method of Clinical Massage on the wellbeing of nightshift workers. Participating in this study is therefore an exciting opportunity to be part of a piece of scientific research!

For more information about Jing and how you can find a Jing therapist near you visit https://www.jingmassage.com/

Kate has also taken on additional training and has certification in hot stones massage, advanced myofascial release, and work with the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).

Kate the Person

Kate grew up on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales with teacher parents and her big brother, and was always encouraged to follow her own path and to achieve her goals through hard work.

At school she showed an interest in physiotherapy and meteorology, both areas of study with a strong background in science. She went to Reading University to study meteorology, spending a year of this time studying in the USA at Oklahoma University. Her first career after student life saw her working as a full time meteorologist, working 12 hour shifts on a swing shift system for 9 years, so she truly appreciates all that comes with the territory of night work. This was not a sustainable career for her and decided it was time for a change, but struggled to find the right fit.

Looking at her other passions -she is a keen gym goer and open water swimmer- she was drawn back towards the idea of physiotherapy but was unsure about the idea of returning to university; it was at this point that Kate discovered the wonderfully diverse world of massage therapy.

In 2019 Kate began her journey to becoming a massage therapist originally training in Swedish massage. The more she learns the more she wants to know, and she is now taking on the UK's highest qualification in massage the BTEC level 6 in Advanced Clinical and Sports Massage, due to be completed in 2026.

Kate describes herself as a 'body detective' and works to get to the root cause of your pain. She offers appointments based on massage time and each massage is bespoke to you and your needs. She has a range of techniques and tools to draw upon to ensure that you get the best results possible whilst experiencing an enjoyable massage.

Kate is now happily settled and Devon, and loves how fast she can get to the sea, and how many amazing farms shops there are to visit!

In addition to training in the gym and open water swimming, Kate loves to bake, spend quality time with friends and family, play the piano and when she can, travel. She is a reluctant runner (and part of the tomato face club IYKYK), but refuses to stop trying as she believes it is an important life skill to have.
